Water - From Fountains to Bottles

Water bottle companies such as Coca Cola and Pepsi bottle tap water into harmful plastic bottles to sell back to us, and they aren't required to list the source of where their water comes from on the label (Tapped Documentary). So why do we thing that tap water isn't as clean or cleaner than bottled water? And why aren't we just drinking water from our tap instead? Because as a society we have somehow gotten it into our heads that tap water is dirty and nothing is cleaner than ice-cold bottled water. We need to be aware of the quality and the source of our water to maintain our health and help the environment. .
Every day gallons of water is sourced and pumped into factory made plastic bottles that emit hazardous toxins into the air and the plastic bottle itself. Despite what the label on the bottle with the pretty mountain picture, drinking water from a plastic bottle can cause serious health risks. According to Earth Talk, a column dedicated to answer questions about the environment, Bisphenol A (BPA) and Phthalates are two toxic chemicals that are widely used in making plastic bottles that can lead to health risks such as male and female reproductive issues, cancer, and an altered immune system (Fujan, About News). The FDA regulates all water sources that are sold to the public. Regular tap water is constantly tested on an hourly basis to make sure that it is clean and uncontaminated since it's distributed throughout homes, businesses, and schools (Tapped Documentary). Those tap water results are easily available to the public as apposed to bottled water, which isn't regulated as strictly as tap water. The FDA only has one person making sure that all bottled water companies test the water themselves and sends their data to make sure that it meets the FDA regulations (Tapped Documentary). Bottled water should be tested by outside sources not just by the company itself since it is a product that consumers by all the time.
