The Failing Prison System

All the people who commit these crimes are caught up in the moment and feel as if stealing and making or selling drugs is their only way to make it through each day and sustain their needs of survival. In the eyes of every person who does things like these, they see that the risk is worth the reward, which is the main reason why these crimes occur so often. If criminals were to be in the right mind before they were about to do something illegal, they would not commit the crime. Even though some may consider the thought of getting caught and going to prison, it still does not stop them getting or doing what they want because they are so distraught that they see no other way to solve their problem. The worse part about all this is that when they get sent to prison, it only gets worse for our society. When a criminal gets sent to prison, does an amount of time, and gets let free, they are more intelligent, well-taught criminals that have the power to do whatever they please. The reasoning behind their knowledge is obviously because of the environment and influences that they have been around for an extended amount of time. The years they spend in prison allows them to learn from other convicts, including systems that caused them to thrive, ways that didn't work, and various advice on how to avoid getting caught. After they're let free, they end up committing more crime and have a lessened chance of getting caught because of their insight they acquired from other prisoners. All of the people who commit these moderately serious crimes could all have could a chance to change their ways in life and start moving on a different path with rehabilitation. Unfortunately, the prison system does not offer this option to them. .
If rehabilitation were enacted into the prison system, criminals could see the other side of the equation: the changes they can make to better themselves for the future, the knowledge to succeed in life, approaches on how to deal with their problems and to switch from old to new, better ways.
