Buddhism in Japan was the most tolerant with homosexuality since it praised it for the "mystery."[4] (quote) Even today, Japan does not have any restrictions on same-sex marriage and homosexual behavior. Furthermore, religion such as Hindu states that "[t]he sacred texts in the Hindu tradition, the Vedas, did not restrict homosexuality, but rather viewed it as perverse."[5](quote) Rather than homosexuality and the same-sex marriage, other things such as mixed blood relationships and using violence against parents were considered to be more offensive.
Christianity contributes the most the homophobia and gay right opponents. Christianity itself and what they believe in, Bible, is the largest areas where incorrect assumptions occur so that the fanatics can preach against the minority people. Most fanatics believe that Christianity thinks of homosexuality as a sin. However, most scholars have proposed that the Bible does not really say that homosexuality is a sin, and that translations are not accurate and have been misunderstood. In other words Lynn Lavner humorously said that, "The Bible contains six admonishments to homosexuality and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean God doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision."[6](quote) The six "admonishments" are in the books of Leviiticus, Corinthians, Genesis, Romans, and the letters of Paul. The most used one by same-sex marriage opponents are in the books of Leviticus and the story of Sodom. There are two anti-gay lines in Leviticus: "You shall not lie with a man as with a woman; it is an abomination,"[7] "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them."[8] At the first glance, these two lines look like Biblical anti-gay lines; however, same-sex marriage proponent scholars say that those two lines must be understood in context.
