The Six Primary Regions of the USA

 

            We can distinguish six main regions in the United States: New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the South, the Southwest, the Northwest and the Midwest. The Mid-Atlantic is a region of Unites States which consist of seven states: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. This region is located between New England and the South and is stretching from New York south to Virginia. New York is the third most populous state in the country. Its capital is Albany. The largest city – New York City is known as the cultural center of United States. It is divided into five boroughs: Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Richmond. The boroughs are divided into neighborhoods and each neighborhood has an individual ethnic character. The most interesting attractions of New York City are Times Square, Central Park and the Statue of Liberty which was a gift to the People of United States from France in 1886 to honor their friendship. Pennsylvania was primarily a heart of immigration, today it is an industrial and commercial center. The state capital is Harrisburg but its most famous city is Philadelphia which was once a capital of USA and it is a place where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the American Constitution was written. New Jersey is the most densely peopled state in United States. It was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War. It is considered an important banking and industrial center. In New Jersey is also located a respected higher learning institution – Princeton University. Delaware is the smallest and the most southern state in the area. It is divided into three counties: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. The state involve a wide range of industries producing, among others, plastics and fertilizers. It is the first state which entered the Union. What is interesting about Maryland is that it a center of aircraft production.
