Why Are We Still Worried About Gay Marriage?

There's an ongoing controversy surrounding gay marriage, but everyone should have the right to marry whomever they please, as long as they are of age, mentally capable, and can give consent. When we see Maslow's Hierarchy of needs, somewhere on his list to reach "self actualization" we have to hit the "love" level. How do we expect any gay person to reach self-actualization if we stunt them before the level of love?.
When arguments arise on the gay marriage subject, usually the first person to speak out against gay marriage is a Christian or some other religious person. They claim that it is against God's will and that it isn't supported by religion. I thought we lived in America, where we were free from religious slavery. Of course it is against that God, but that God also says "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged. Condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned. Forgive, and ye shall be forgiven" and banning gay marriage is judgmental. What would Jesus do? Kim Davis of Covington, KY is being sued for refusing to provide licenses for marriage, this includes same sex and opposite sex. She made this decision after the country wide legalization of gay marriage. She says, "It wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment decision, it was thought out, and I sought God on it. " She may believe she was doing what was right for her religious reasons, however she is being sued and probably out of a job because our country doesn't run off God's law.
I often hear gay marriage critics say that straight marriage will be less meaningful if we allow gays to marry. How dare we ruin the sanctity of Britney Spear's 55 hour marriage to Jason Alexander. We can't forget that we would totally be trashing on Kim K's 72 hour marriage to Kris Humphries. Couples like Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka prove that gay marriage has just as much meaning as any straight marriage, they have been happily together since 2006, married since 2014 and have started a beautiful happy family together.
