Memoir Essay - The Fire

Depending on how severe the damage was we might be having to be staying with someone else for a little while. We waited around for hours waiting on to hear what was happening. We had a million things running through our minds, and a million questions to ask about what had happened. We were told that our parents would come that night to explain and to answer any questions that we had. When our parents arrived later that night we found out that everything was destroyed and that we had to stay with my Dads cousin who had an extra room till they found a solution for this. They then told us we would all be having to share a room and my parents had a cot for my sister and I to sleep on. None of us had expected something like this to happen, or that all four of us would be having to share a room. I never appreciated personal space more at that point than any other time in my life. All I wanted was my own room back and my old house. We had to get rid of both of our dogs which was very hard for all of us considering we had had them since both my sister and I were very small children. Days passed and then weeks passed and there was still no news on what was happening with our house. A few days after that we started asking questions about when we were going back to our house. They had told us that we weren't, which seemed to upset my mom more than any other normal day. As the days went on my parents were both always in bad moods. But one day my mom came home from work happier than most. She told my sister and me that her friends had a surprise waiting for us at her work and that we would have to hurry and go see it. We had gotten in the car immediately and had driven over, when we had walked in we had seen a huge cubicle filled with girls' clothing, toys, and books. I never saw my mom cry of happiness and excitement for my sister and I till this moment. We were all so overwhelmed and grateful for them doing this for us.
