Terrorism and the United States

The United States and the world have changed significantly in the dozen years since terrorists hijacked jetliners and launched the biggest attack on American since Pearl Harbor. The twin towers of the World Trade Center fell, a portion of the Pentagon burned, America was in shock. Terrorism has affected many people around the world. It has been around for years and is still around now in 2015. Terrorism can be defined in many ways. According to The FBI definitions of Terrorism in the U.S code "International Terrorism" means activities with the following characteristics: .
Appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and occur primarily outside the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S., or transcend national boundaries in terms of the means by which they are accomplished, the persons they appear intended to intimidate or coerce, or the locale in which their perpetrators operate or seek asylum. .
Terrorism plays a big role in wars across the world. GMA news mentioned that," On the top of the list of countries most affected by terrorism was Iraq, followed by Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria, Syria, India, Somalia, Yemen, and Thailand" (Amita Legapsi). As we can see its not just the Untied States being affected by terrorism. Over the world terrorism kills millions of people. Daniel Burke from Washington (CNN) stated "The previous record for attacks was set in 2011 with more than 5,000 incidents; for fatalities the previous high was 2007 with more than 12,800 deaths." On the morning of September 11, 2001 two planes were crashed into the World Trade Center. The United States felt uncertain and caused the U.S to enforce national security because of fear of future attacks. The attempt to prevent another terrorist attack increased since the 9/11 attack causing the Patriot Act passed right after September 11.
