So I just gave her another belt in the nose and a couple of turns of the boot and sort of left it at that.
Ruth: How did you know she was diseased?.
             Pause.
             Lenny: I decided she was.
             .
This scene shows us Lenny's views on women, due to the lack of respect and womanly upbringing. On the other hand, in The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Scene three, we see Davey lovingly pumping up the tires of his bike, which is propped upside down next to him. We then hear whizzing shots from an air rifle offstage, one of them hits Davey in the cheek, making him dive down behind his bike.
Davey: Ar, ya fecker, Mairead! Ya big fecker, you! You got me in the cheek there!.
McDonagh describes Mairead as a girl of sixteen or so, slim, pretty, close-cropped hair, army trousers, white shirt, sunglasses, carrying an air rifle. She walks in and starts to kick Davey's bicycle into the ditch, just as he is getting up.
Davey: Leave me fecking bike alone, now! Is it not enough you shoot me in the face, let alone battering my bicycle on top of it?.
Mairead: No, It's not enough! It's not enough at all for your crimes!.
Davey: What fecking crimes, ya lube?! Leave me fecking bike alone, now!.
Shoves Mairead to the ground and backs away with hands in air, Mairead glares at him aims rifle at face and slowly stands up.
Davey: (hands raised) I didn't mean to push you that hard, Mairead, I promise. Don't, now! I'll be telling Mam on ya!.
Mairead: Go ahead and tell Mam, only you'll have to tell her with no eyes.
             .
The two types of women portrayed throughout both plays demonstrate two different ways of particular power styles in order to have control. Mairead displays an upfront authoritarian style as she demands and challenges those around her for what she wants and needs in order to reach her goal and justify who she is, on the other hand, Ruth evinces a manipulative authoritarian style as she uses cunning tactics and mind games on those around her to attain what she wants.
