The Fall on Education: Standardized Testing

 


             Standardized tests are more common to be problematic because the students are measured on mere memorization and test-taking skills.Numerous of standardized tests have the tendency to disregard the most essential attributes of a decent learner. "Schools now teach their students only on what they think will be on the tests. It's not fair to our education. We should be learning for ourselves, not for others", is what a tenth grader said in The Huffington Post about standardized testing. Standardized testing is any form of testing where the students are tested on the same test questions in order to get proper data to analyze the student's' ability. Many schools in the United States utilize standardized testing to its maximum ability and whether or not this form of testing is effective is the question that is causing a common debate between people in the educational system. School systems start standardized testing on young children, as young as the age of eight all the way up to high school when the child has reached the age of eighteen. Young children should not be tested on standardized tests because they are very difficult. The tests, even at a fourth grade level, are made that goes beyond their capability to understand deception in the tests. .
             Writer Nicholas Ferroni students gave him details on their opinion of standardized testing. The students made comments such as, "I think that they are truly pointless. It doesn't tell how smart a student is because some people don't work well under pressure and stress" and "Standardized tests do not test a student's knowledge whatsoever; they test memory. Then students cheat because they are more about grades than learning". These comments are coming from tenth grader who do not understand the purpose or usefulness of standardized testing when they should. Students are out under extensive pressure to get good grades and scores for these standardized testing but the students do not feel it is useful which could cause low test scores as well.
