Psychological Thought Process of Kitty Genovese Under Attack

What might have been going through Kitty Genovese's mind as she was being attacked?.
I think that Kitty Genovese's mind might have had hundreds of thoughts running through her mind as she was being attacked; however I believe that only one or two thoughts would have been completely conscious to her at the time. Being put in a life or death situation without any warning puts the mind into a state of survival mode where the only things one is aware of is getting out of the current situation in any way possible. During the moments when Kitty's attacker momentarily left her, Kitty's mind was most likely rapidly analyzing potential ways of returning to safety as quickly as possible in her current environment, such as which way to run next. The neighbors who heard the screams of Kitty might not have called the police because they didn't want to get involved in the dangerous situation due to the fact that it was not any of their business. They might have been anxious upon hearing the screams and checked out their windows, but without seeing anyone else coming to Kitty's aide, they decided to ignore the situation. The fact that they were hidden from the situation they might not have felt obligated to offer assistance, as opposed to being confronted by the situation had they walked by as the incident was occurring and choosing to walk away. By staying anonymous and opting not to help, the sense of guilt would not be as severe as it would be if Kitty had looked them in the eyes screaming for help and then they had turned her back on her and disregarded the situation.
