Personally, I think the whole Kitty Genovese story is not only disturbing but sad not only because she died, but because no one did anything to prevent it. As Chief Inspector, Fred Lussen said " If we had been called when he first attacked, this women might not be dead now." All of those people who heard her screams and her cries should be ashamed and embarrassed for what they didn't do. That just shows that people only care about themselves and could care less about other people. They showed no respect for Kitty and I feel bad for her because I am sure that she was a really nice person and she totally didn't deserve what happened to her. The neighbors that heard her did something that just pissed me off. They said that they heard something and where to scared to call the police. That's just pathetic. Nothing could have happened to them if they called the police. Its not like the killer would know who called the police. They were just not taking responsibility for their stupid actions. I think that the criminal's punishment wasn't harsh enough, considering that he escaped from jail. I think that he should have been put to death when they had the chance. .
This story is very upsetting to me and I don't know why people would just close their blinds when they heard her screams. If I heard her screams I would defiantly call the police because that's the ethical thing to do. Some people just don't think sometimes in uncomfortable situations but that's no excuse. I am really touched by this story and now I know to care about others, like the way I care about myself. .
