Another setback to the DVR companies is the fact that they have yet to make any money. TiVo, the number one competitor burns money each quarter. The business model of these companies put profit into the customer subscription basis. Unless these companies reach their expected customer base, they could fail to ever earn a profit. Again, the problems that are faced with TV networks and advertisers could cause more problems. As more people start to watch recorded shows and fast forward through them, the TV networks are going to lose advertising revenue. Advertisers have been successful so far, such as removing a 30 second skip option and limit DVRs to fast forwarding.
