Religious Understanding

 

             For many years, United States of America has a constitutional right of having freedom of religion to all the people. Arguments have been stirred involving with the teaching of religion in the universities. In the essay "Hollow Curriculum," Robert N. Sollod agues that we should have religion teaching in the universities. .
             I agree with Sollod's point in having religion as a course in the universities. I agree with him because we live in the United States of America. This place is a melting pot of many different cultural/religious people. In a university, many different people who have different religions. Everywhere you turn there will be someone who has a different belief from you or any other person. Also, learning about religion in the universities will help people in his/her career. Knowing and understanding religion can be a helpful way for business people to know where people are coming from. If a doctor knows what religion he/she is then they might know what type of medication he/she cannot take. I've observed the misunderstanding of religion from many incidence. I've also personally experienced the lack of knowing religious background. .
             I've witness at a Mc Donald's that a Muslim family ordered chicken sandwiches. But instead of chicken sandwiches, they gave him a cheeseburger. Mc Donald's messed up some order with another family's order. The Muslim family were insulted by the workers. This is a lack of people who do not understand religion. Muslim's do not eat cows, according to the Muslim's beliefs, the cow is sacred. .
             In my personal experience, I have a friend who is Jewish and Jewish people do not eat pork. I did not know that till an accident happened. I brought food from home to my 2nd period class. I opened the container and had a lot of meat and rice in the container. My friend sitting next to me ate some of the food and later asked me if it was pork. I said yes, and I asked him why ask that question.
