Early Colonial experiences

Both the English and Spanish had early colonial experiences when first exploring and settling the Americas. Both experiences are different enough to say there are distinct English and Spanish experiences. The Spanish led a successful journey to the Americas and became wealthy, unlike the English who had very hard experiences when coming to the New World.
The first English colonial experience was set up at Roanoke. The first attempt failed because the settlers starved and returned to England. The second attempt on Roanoke ended with the colony vanishing which is still a mystery today, some believe it was an Indian tribe they may have joined or been defeated by. The next colony set up in North America survived and this was Jamestown. One of the problems in Jamestown is many of the settlers did not want to do manual labor and perform the daily tasks needed to survive, and instead searched for gold. Another problem is they were not prepared for the harsh winters which occurred where they landed.
The Spanish on the other hand had very successful experiences. For instance Cortes who was sent to Mexico conquered the Aztec people, one of the largest empires in the world, and the gold was there for him to take. Other Spanish conquistadors settled around Mexico, Central America, South America, and the islands of the Caribbean. The Spanish mined gold froe Mexico and Peru and also captured natives and used them as slaves. The Spanish made a large empire in the Americas.
In conclusion, both the English and Spanish had distinct early colonial experiences. The English had a hard time settling in North America, while the Spanish set up and gained wealth rather quickly.
