Stan By Eminem

Finally, in dire straits to get the attention of Slim Shady, Stan records his voice on a cassette that only the viewer of the video gets to hear because Slim Shady never receives the cassette. Stan records his message in a drunken vulgar rage with explicit language explaining how much he now detests Slim Shady for not replying and how he is speeding down a highway drunk, with his pregnant wife locked in the trunk of the car. Stan says that he has torn all of Slim Shady's posters off of his wall and has torn all of his pictures into pieces. Stan cries that he is about to drive off a bridge killing himself and his pregnant wife in hope of haunting Slim Shady forever. Being drunk and careless, Stan forgets that there is no way to send the cassette to Slim Shady as he drives off of a bridge to his death having never mailed the cassette he had just recorded. .
The shocking turn of events in the video occur when Slim Shady sings a letter, in reply to Stan's letters, not knowing of Stan's fate. He replies that he is sorry he did not write back sooner and that he likes what the two of them have in common. Then he explains that he does not want Stan to go crazy from not receiving a letter sooner because he had just heard of a man who drove himself and his pregnant wife off a bridge in an angry drunken rage. As the viewer of the video hears these words, a shiver races down their spine knowing, as Slim Shady in a state of shock now realizes too, that Stan is the crazy drunk who plunged to his death killing himself and his pregnant wife. .
The message Eminem is trying to convey in this music video is how far an enraged and crazy fan may go to be noticed by their idol. Being idolized by many, Eminem receives thousands of letters from fans hoping to hear back from him. Eminem, by not being able to send his letter promptly, is haunted by the shock of realizing that Stan is the disturbed man who killed himself and his pregnant wife, the same man Eminem was hoping Stan would not become.
