Clay for me is something that wishes, but knows not quite how to be .
a nameless movement, an uncaught idea.
calling the adventure of consciousness and joy.

Pottery to me is a metaphor for life. One can mould clay as per one's own need - or better still - imagination. Yet, it has its unique character - a greater scheme that cannot be ignored or changed. You have to work within those limitations - yet, mould it your way. .
The uncertainty of results is a major driving force in pottery. And, the chance of failure at the very final stage is real. Pottery has taught me to handle disappointment on failure and to celebrate the joy of creation. It has also taught me to respect manual labour. From wedging clay to working on the wheel, from moulding clay into a sculpture to cleaning up the workspace - your own two hands are your best tools. It has taught me humility. Clay treats every potter the same - be it the one sitting in a studio, setting global trends, or the one by the roadside making diyas for Diwali. .
If pottery brings out the individual in me, it is teams that bring out the best of me. Every year, the monsoons sign in the arrival of Malhar - the intercollegiate festival hosted by St. Xavier's College - Mumbai, where I studied. I have been a part of Malhar each of the three years that I spent there. For all the excitement that is built around the festival, both in the media and on campuses around the city, what allured me the most was the making of Malhar. Between attending practical sessions in Physics, Chemistry and Geology, Malhar meant practical sessions in Administration and Management! An almost real organisation - 1500 people, 20 departments and a marked hierarchy - it was a challenge to leave a mark. Malhar also marked my first steps into teamwork and leadership. From being a volunteer at Malhar "96, Coordinator at Malhar "97, I moved on to being an Organiser in Malhar "98.
