Humans Should Not be Manufactured

Living up to standards that are far out of reach might be psychologically harmful. For example, the clone's self-esteem could be diminished; perhaps the child would regard herself as nothing more than a coy of someone (Strong 192) else, which could create emotional instability for the clone and its family. This life of exceeding a standard is a "significant impediment to freedom in directing [its] own life?(Strong 192) because the child will not be accepted unless he or she surpasses the standard. However, people who are in favor of cloning, claim that children who are conceived naturally also experience the demands of living up to the legacy of their parent or to some other impossible standard. "It depends on how the standard is used and regarded by those directly involved. If it is used by parents in a loving and nurturing manner, it can help children develop their autonomy, rather than inhibit it?(Strong 192). After all, not all standards are necessarily a bad thing, depending on how it is handled. Therefore, even though parents are often held up as standards, a standard placed upon the clone is different because that was what it was created for. .
However, some people may argue that a clone is just a normal person, and would not be exactly the same as the original because they will not have the same environment and experiences as his or her predecessor; a clone is more like a younger identical twin (Bailey 109). Because no one has dispute with the fact that twins are immoral, people "should treat clones like [they] would treat all twins or triplets?(Bailey 109). After all, twins who grow up together are separate people "distinct individuals with different personalities (Bailey 109). In addition, a clone that grew from one person's DNA inserted in another person's host egg would pick up "maternal factors?from the proteins in that egg (Bailey 110), affecting the clone's development, therefore a clone could not possibly be a copy of some past creature.
