An essay about a Face

Autobiography of a face by Lucy Grealy.
The book "Autobiography of a face" is about a girl who looses her face from a cancer. The story is about what she goes through as a child going to the hospital almost everyday of her life. She describes her adventure in the hospital. She didn't have any friend except for the ones in the hospital. Her friends were nurses and the children on her floor.
Growing up for her was very hard. She describes how other kids made fun of her. I remember my self getting picked on when I first came into this country. It was hard for me to come to school everyday when I had my own costume and spoke no English. It must have been worse for Lucy considering her jaw was missing. She mentions how one would make fun for someone to ask her out. In Halloween, she didn't need any mask because she felt she was wearing one. She described how difficult it was for her in any other day with her mask on. She couldn't look at herself in the mirror. She saw what others' saw in her face in the mirror. She felt comfortable with the horses she was taking care of. She felt that only the animals didn't care what Lucy looked like. Also they understood her feelings in her loneliness. She hated the superficial things people use to make them beautiful. One time when she was loosing her hair, her mom's friend suggested her to wear a wig. She only thought that it made her look worse. She didn't see what other people saw when she was trying the wig on. She was surprised that even her mom wanted her to get a wig although they weren't in a good condition economically.
             .
In Ireland Lucy had her final surgery. She felt that she was being mistaken for somebody else with the new face. She couldn't believe this is what she has been waiting for eighteen years. She couldn't recognize herself. Where other's believed she finally got her real face, only she knew that it was only a mask for her now.
