No New Worlds

The realization that there will be no new world is a concern for the present and future, seeing as we cannot undo the past. Key pieces of information stand out when looking at how we are helping in the destruction of this single world we have and the lives of those who live on it. For instance, it is estimated that 140 species are becoming extinct daily, due to the presence of humans. Also, Thomas Malthus and his theory of exponential growth in population is one that could teach us ideas of how to conserve and protect resources. An alarming statistic is in reference to energy consumption by the Canadian population, which is equivalent to that of 14 billion Ethiopians. Another key piece of information has to do with only 10 of the estimated 150 agriculturally developed countries being able to export food. Lastly, the rights of women and their education is vital in decreasing birthrates, for various reasons and ensuring proper care of children around the world.
If humans continue to be a factor in the extinction of species over the next 30 years, whether it is through derogation of forests or humans invading habitats, we will be the ones at fault for eliminating 25 percent of the planets species. We are directly impacting the lives of species everywhere and turn a blind eye to how the extinction of species affects, for example the food chain. All species rely on each other for food, therefore causing the extinction of one species, leads to the extinction of more as their source for food disappears. If the population of humans wasn't as large we would be instrumental in decreasing the amount of animal extinctions.
Humans may in fact be the one species that rely heavily on resources, natural and man-made. As Thomas Malthus stated, human populations expand exponentially, while the resources we depend including space and water remain fixed, meaning the quantity is unchanged. If our population continues to grow at this rapid rate, we will have no other alternatives to provide such necessities as water and space.
