At Polonius?house, Laertes took Ophelia aside before his departure to France to give her some final advice. When he was in France his business internship kept him so busy that he was not in contact with his sister. When Laertes came back to the States he found that Ophelia had become involved with Hamlet Smith. Laertes worried about Ophelia and finally decided to bring up the subject with her. .
"Regarding Hamlet, please ignore his interest in you. Treat his flirtation as no more than something that comes with nature. It may seem sincere and sweet now, but none of that is permanent. Just like the stock market, it may have a month of amazing growth, but soon it will fall. Bear in mind about his future; his will is not his own. When the business passes down to him, he needs to make decisions based on the welfare of the company, and you will no longer be his priority. He is young now and as his ambition and responsibilities grow, his love is going to change. So if he says he loves you, let your wisdom help you to know that he can only give you as much as his position allows. Young man nowadays changes his mind faster than the market. Don't lose your sense and fall in love so easily. Don't let him ruin your reputation either. Uphold your pride and stay out of the gossip. You are better than that. Even the best company can die in a day when it is associated with a bad rumor. In our society, girls who are abandoned by their boyfriends get a bad reputation. And since you will start working for Dad's company soon, you should keep out of any trouble,'said Laertes.
Ophelia took the advice from her brother seriously although she also warned him not to indulge himself in France while she tried to follow this difficult but moral path in which he instructed her. She knew that this wasn't a time to argue with her brother, although Ophelia still strongly believe in her relationship with Hamlet.
