Roy was in the middle of a batting slump. People were losing faith in their hero, and Roy was even beginning to lose faith in himself. Just when Roy thought he could not achieve his hit, a woman in a red dress stood up from her seat in the swarm of Knights fans. This rejuvenates Roy's power and allows him to hit again. Roy wanted to meet this mystery woman, and they set a date. They met and had a romantic night by a lake. Roy had just encountered a woman, who is nothing like any women he has ever met, and her name was Iris. .
Roy and Iris spend their night by the lake talking and getting to know each other. Roy wondered why she stood up that day at the game. Iris answered him by saying that it was hard for her to give up her privacy at the game, but she knew that it was not possible to do something for someone else without having to make a sacrifice. She felt he needed to know the people believed in him. She didn't want to see a hero fail, so she stood up in order for him to regain his talent of hitting.
Roy began to open up to Iris, which was hard for him since he was uneasy about revealing his past. He believed he had a lot to give to the "game," and felt he was too late to have achieved it all. He told Iris about the time when Harriet Bird shot him, which was one of the shames of his life. He felt "burned good," buy the women that have been in his life. Roy spoke very negatively about some of his past, and expressed to Iris that he feels it has always happened to him, being on the unhappier side of life. He couldn't understand why it always happened to him, why did he deserve it?.
Iris was expressing that there are two parts to a life, how you live and what you learn, and your life after. Iris tells him, "Experience makes good people better." She believes that the sufferings of people will bring them to happiness. Roy didn't want the suffering anymore, he had enough of it. Iris explained to Roy that it teaches you to want the right things.
