Social Phobia and the affects it has on life

.
Along with occupational tribulations socially phobic individuals have difficulties with public speaking. They feel as if the people whom they are speaking to are judging what they say and what kind of person they are. School plays, business meetings, and teaching, are also activities that a person with SP cannot perform. In order to carry out these tasks there is a great deal of public speaking that must be fulfilled. Not being able to take part in this must hurt, because these are all very enjoyable activities. There are two types of SPs, in one type the person is unable to speak publicly when making or performing a speech. This is called non-generalized social phobia, also known as stage frightened. The second type of SP is known as generalized social phobia where there behavior destroys all areas of their lives and leads them to avoid all public interaction whenever and however possible. .
As public speaking is an encumbrance so is relationships with others. One of the major affects of SP is feeling discomfort when greeting someone. To become intimate with someone it must first start with hello. A person with SP once said "I'd wake up each morning dreading who I'd have to say 'Hello' to and seldom made it through a day at work without feeling nearly paralyzed by fear, as if the end of the world was about to occur at any moment." (Bellenir, 92). As difficult as this is for them some people who have SP find numerous ways to get through their day without even catching eyes with someone. The American dream has always been to have a happy family with the white picket fence, something like The Brady Bunch family. In order to complete this objective there are hurdles one must climb if they suffer from SP. It is even difficult for a person with SP to spark up a conversation if they find a common interest. Even engaging in small talk is an intricate duty, because they are insecure with what they might say.
