Iago the puppet master

 

            
             There are people in the world who are master manipulators. These people are able to take any situation they are faced with and turn it in there favor. From flat-out lying to saying part of the truth or saying things in a way that puts them in a light of innocence, manipulative people are sometimes referred to as puppet masters. Puppet Masters are able to, "Pull the Strings-, of individuals around them and control these individuals at the highest level of manipulation. For example, if a person, in a corporate setting, was unhappy about the advancement of his/her fellow co-worker , because the boss favored the co-worker a little bit more, then this person can in fact be so manipulative that they are able to convince the boss that the ,newly promoted, employee has done something that should take away from the promotion. In William Shakespeare's play Othello, Iago is the puppet master of the play. As this master manipulator, Iago is able to drive a rift between Cassio and Othello, cause Othello to mistrust, his bride, Desdemona, and Make money all in the process. Iago's success is a master manipulator; through out this play, he manipulates people, events, and even chance; until the very end, he is the right person in the right place at the right time. .
             The fact that Iago was passed up as the lieutenant behind Othello is what triggers Iago to begin to decieve and manipulate people in the play. At the very beginning of the play Iago shows the digust he has for the decision. As Iago and Roderigo walk along the Venetian Streets, Iago begins to rant about his misfortune saying, "Despise me, if I do not. Three great ones of the city, In personal suit to make me his lieutenant, Off-capp'd to him: and, by the faith of man, I know my price, I am worth no worse a place."" (act I scene 1, 8-12). Iago Feelings that Cassio was promoted ahead of him triggers the hatred within Iago, Iago wants a way to get a sort of revenge for what he has lost to Cassio.
