Capital punishment in australia

Now the worst punishment impoundable by Australian law is life imprisonment, with no parole. Capital punishment had been abolished due to the growing concern of many people as they saw many problems behind this method of punishment. Some of these problems include; innocence of the perpetrator, the costs of execution for governments and the needs of rehabilitation of society. On the other hand, arguments supporting this method of punishment disregard many of the above points and sacrifice them in the sake of society's welfare. .
To state the subject again. Capital punishment is the lawful infliction of death as a punishment, and since ancient times it has been used for a wide mixture of offences. It has been outlawed in Britain bit in America it is still allowed. Reform of the death penalty began in Europe by the 1750's. Professionals in this subject argued that the death penalty was needlessly cruel, glorified as a deterrent and occasionally imposed in serious error. These people defended life imprisonment as a more rational choice. In America, Asia Africa and the Middle East most countries still hold on to the death penalty for certain crimes and use it at their will. The most common form used for the death penalty is the electric chair. This is more commonly used in the United States. There are many arguments for and against the death penalty. When arguing for the death penalty examples are incapacitation of the criminal. Capital punishment permanently removes the worst criminals from society and should prove much cheaper and safer for the rest of us that long term or permanent imprisonment. It is obvious that dead criminals can not commit any further crimes, either within prison or after being released from it. Cost is also a major factor. Money is always worried about in any government's budget. The state may very well better spend peoples limited resources on those that are in need of it, for example the old the young and the sick rather than the long term imprisonment of murderers and rapists.
