Imagine falling in love with the person of your dreams. You knew from the first moment of looking at this person that they were your soul mate. You get married and decide to have children. You have two beautiful children. When your oldest boy turns twenty he calls and says, "Mom and Dad, we need to talk." He comes over and sits down next to you as he explains, "I"m gay." What is a parent to do or say? What is a parent supposed to think? I would say, accept him for who he is and what he does, do not judge him on how he feels. Gay marriage has come to an all-time high and people see both sides of this issue everyday. One must choose a side; I choose to support it. .
Did you know that nearly three out of every four people in the United States opposes gay marriage? Some of the same people that are in support of gay rights, oppose gays on the sole issue of gay marriage. People seem to come up with many misconceptions about gays that cause them to think the way that they do. Many of the reasons offered for opposing gay marriage are based on the assumption that gays have a choice in who they can feel attracted to, which is nothing close to the reality of the situation. Many people actually believe that gays can simply choose to be heterosexual if they wish. However, what few people understand is that very few actually do have a choice. Additionally, many people continue to believe that homosexuality is about nothing but sex, considering it to be merely a sexual perversion. The reality is that homosexuality is multidimensional, and is much more about love and affection than it is about sex. People are not able to see this because they are too focused on the "gay" aspect rather than seeing the two people in love. This is what gay relationships are based on, mutual attraction, love and affection. Sex is way of expressing that love, just as it is for heterosexuals. Being gay is much more profound than simply a sexual relationship; being gay is part of that person's identity.
