GREASY LAKE

The story Greasy lake was written by t. It is a story about three friends , digby , and jeff.they refered to themselves as dangerous characters.they drank gin,and grape juice and did not care what other people think. They got themselves in trouble when they beat up a guy in a dark place and tried to rape a girl on a place called greasy lake. Which the indians called wakan. In the end they left greasy lake, not trying to remember what had just happened the day before. I am going to talk about the tone and the imagery of the story.
             .
The tone of the story is very serious and very graphic.this story is not for children to be reading. In the beginning of the story the narrator is explaining how they were, when they were youg. "We drank gin, grape juice, tango, thunderbird, and bali hai. We were nineteen. We were bad. We read andre gide and struck elaborate poses to show that we did"nt give a shit about anything." from the way that boyle was writing the story , he intended his story to a more mature viewer. The languange plays a big part in the story because it elaborates there adventures even more. On page 122 "motherfucker" he spat, over and over, and I was aware in that instant that all four of us-digby,jeff, and myself included were chanting "motherfucker, motherfucker." the languange is very aggressive. This whole line cleary states that the boys were in really deep trouble.
In the middle of the story, on page124 "it's them, it's them:they tried to, tried to.rape me!"sobs. Here boyle exploits more of what the three boys have done. With the girl sobbing she was really in a deep shock just by the way she was talking to her friends. .
Another concept that boyle put in the story was the very creative imagery. On pagge 125 it says. "I don't know how long I was there, the bad breath of decay all around me, my jacket heavy as a bear, the primordial ooze subtly reconstituting itself to accommodate my upper thighs and testicles.
