Handmaids tale

Instead of being known as a person or individual with names, they are now known by assigned levels or groups of people with assigned jobs. Women are now given specific colours to wear representing their position in the new regime and they cannot talk, walk, or even eat what they would like to eat without permission. Since the women's role is ultimately to breed and nothing more; the regime feels that what they order women to do sufficient to keep them content. .
The government thought that they have everyone in control because of their strict rules but at the same time everyone is unhappy. Even the high ranking officials break rules. It is unfair to women because their rights to sexual freedom are taken away and are assigned to have sex with Commanders they had to have sex with the Commanders because it is the new rule even if they didn't want to. .
"Fake it, I scream at myself inside my head. You must remember how. Let's get it over with or you will be stuck here all night". (Atwood, pg.321) .
Although there are high-ranked women in Gilead, their titles are nonetheless determined by their gender. Aunts and wives are how they are referred to, whereas the male Commanders, Angels, Eyes, and Guardians do not reduce men's circumstances to their sex. Regardless of rank, a women's central feature is her gender. Men receive respect while women are basically treated like nothing more then sex machine. It would make sense if women were allowed to choose their own love partner and get married, raise a family and live a happy life, but this is no longer the case in Gilead society. Women are no longer allowed to get married, but instead they are forced to have sex even when they do not want to with their Commanders and get pregnant for Commander's Wives. After a baby is produced Handmaids are sent to a different Commanders house nine months later to repeat the same routine incessantly. Everything was in the hands of the men, even when Handmaids would go for checkups they would be worried if the doctor would make up a false report or not.
