Why Pro-Choice Is The Right Choice

No matter who is asked; the mailman, the person sitting next to you in class or the politician on Capitol Hill, everyone has their own opinion on what is right and what is wrong when it comes to abortion and a woman's right to choose. However, when it comes down to it, the ultimate decision should be made by the woman who finds herself in the situation faced with an unwanted pregnancy. That is why, no matter what you think your personal decision would be, Pro-Choice, or rather, the right to choose whether or not to abort a fetus, should be a choice available to all women.
Prior to Roe Vs Wade in 1973, a woman who found herself with an unwanted pregnancy had very limited choices. It made no difference how she became pregnant; through her "promiscuous" behavior, her failed contraceptive, being raped, or a victim of incest. Her choices were the same;.
             1) Ask her Doctor for help and advice. He is trusted, he knows her, and he might be .
able to help her. She knows that should he decide to perform the surgery then it .
would be a safe, and more importantly clean procedure. If he is unwilling to perform the procedure, he may be able to give her the information she needs to find someone who can and will help her. However in either situation, to get a legal abortion certain procedures need to be followed. This all takes time, and with no guarantees that an abortion will be performed. If her Doctor decides to help her find someone to perform a legal abortion, the woman would have to go before a hospital board. It would be her responsibility to prove that the abortion was necessary to save her life, The process could take up to three weeks to be decided upon and all costs involved (for psychiatrist reports etc.) would have to be paid by the woman. If the board did not unanimously agree on the abortion, then the woman is back at square one, but further along in her pregnancy, and getting more desperate.
