The Passion

There is a movie called The Passion. This movie has caused much controversy. Depending on who you listen to the movie is too gory, will cause too much anti-Semitism, is not true to the bible, or that it is a two hour commercial for Catholicism. All are probably true. .
I have not actually seen the movie, so all I know is what I have read and heard others say, but from what I know the movie is excruciatingly bloody and gruesome. Also, supposedly almost the entire two hours are devoted to the crucifixion, and not much on the story surrounding the crucifixion. Crucifixion was a horrible thing and not meant to be taken lightly. It was long and drawn out, almost like a show, but the show was meant to scare people into obedience. What Jesus went through on the cross was a horrible experience, it was meant to be. On one hand I believe that the truth should not be sugarcoated, but on the other hand not all audiences are mature enough to understand all of the suffering and the reasons behind the suffering. The reasons for suffering should be focused on more than the suffering itself. So in that respect the movie could have a negative effect on people who go to see it. They see all of the effects, but none of the reasons. .
Another argument against the movie is that it will cause anti-Semitism. I personally think that that is thoughtless, irrational, and oversensitive. First off, no one said anything about the movie Pearl Harbor causing bad feelings towards the Japanese. Though it is sad to say, there are people who are more defensive of their country than their god. Because of that, the movie Pearl Harbor would theoretically cause more bad feelings than the movie The Passion. Secondly, anyone who is influenced enough, by a movie, to actually go off and hurt other people because of that movie, should probably not be watching movies to begin with. But, just because someone should not do something does not mean that they will not do it.
