Crazy English

 

            Richard Lederer's essay, "The Strange Case of the English Language," has opened our minds to the fact that English is such a crazy language, after all. .
             Despite the fact that it is the one of the most contradicting languages in the history of linguistics, English has still been the most widely spoken language on our planet for years. The English Language has been used in almost every aspect of life on this globe that it would be extremely difficult to observe the major contradictions in the structure of this complex language. Language is invisible, inescapable, and indispensable; we take it for granted; therefore we do not observe the major contradictions present in the English Language, which is quite unique.
             There is neither egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.
             English muffins were not invented in England, or French fries in France. .
             Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, are meat. .
             In what language do people recite at a play, and play at a recital? .
             How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another? .
             When a house burns up, it burns down. .
             An alarm clock goes off by going on. .
             When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. .
             To be accurate, all languages spoken to date are unique in a different manner; they contradict themselves. The reason is that each of these language is invented by humans; therefore, it reflects the creativity and the fearful asymmetry of the human race.
