             Multiple Personality Disorder (Dissociative Identity Disorder) is a mental process in which there is a lack of connection in thoughts, memories, feelings, actions or identity. While dissociating, certain information is not associated with other information as it normally would be. Some believe that dissociation exists on a continuum ranging from daydreaming to Dissociative Identity Disorder at the other. (IBID) However there is great overlap between the different dissociative disorders (DD), including DID (IBID) (yahoo health). The name Multiple Personality Disorder was changed to Dissociative Identity Disorder in 1994 because the new name reflect more of the understanding of the disorder. Which now it entails a interruption in ones identity to bring out one or more different personalities or identities. When a person is in this new state of mind they illustrate different mannerisms and behaviors. When they return to their ordinary mind settings the person may not remember what had happened to them. The cause of the change in personality can be from stress or past aggression. In the movie Me, Myself & Irene, Charlie played by Jim Carrey demonstrates all of the characteristics of a person that finds out they have Dissociative Identity Disorder.
             The movie takes place in Rhode Island with a man named Charlie who is a State Trooper. He seems to live a very simple and straightforward life. When growing up he was walked all over never wanted any confrontations with anyone. Two examples of this are in the beginning when his wife is having affair and gives birth to three sons that are black but Charlie just shrugged it off. Then one day the wife runs off with the man that she was seeing and left Charlie with the kids. Never said anything to his wife just wished her luck and goodbye. He was left to raze the kids up on his own the kids loved him and gave him respect in the house but when he went outside the world just walked over the nice guy, Charlie.
