When he went to work the town didn't respect him at all he was well known threw out the town. One of his buddies Dick has been parked out side the barber shop for three days and Charlie asked him to move the car because its only 2 hour parking. So Dick throws Charlie the keys and tells him to move it for him out back behind the store (laughing at Charlie). Charlie just looked at him with a sad look on his face and said okay. All this built up angrier can lead one to a major break down or to lash out in manor that you would not normally act in, like a split personality. After ten minutes in to the movie Charlie does such a thing. He becomes Hank his alter ego. When this happens he becomes this guy that doesn't care and punishes the ones that picked on him or just does very irrational things. He changes completely, his voice deepens, walks like a tough guy, he does everything that Charlie would never think of doing. This happens a lot during the movie especially times that are not the greatest times for it to happen. In the movie he has to drive a girl to a jail in up state New York. On his trip to up state New York Hank appears several times on the trip and gets him and the girl into trouble. In the end Charlie over powers Hank and becomes the winner and gets the girl. .
This movie was made to be funny and lot of it wouldn't happen maybe but on the other had it could happen just because you don't know what one with an altered ego is capable of doing. There are parts in this movie that can show you that Charlie, if a real person would be clinically diagnosed with DID. Charlie snaps after he has had enough of being walked all over and then all of a sudden he is calling him self Hank and talking in a different way. For examples, Charlie was trying to tell this girl to stop playing in the street because she may get hit by a car and she wouldn't leave she said that daddy says she doesn't have to listen to Charlie because he is a idiot and then she begins to scream and yell.
