Computer Research and Response Team

The Internet has become one of the most important aspects of today's society. It has created opportunities for the enhancement of globalization and has reached records high over the years. As the Internet and networked systems have become more widespread and advanced, they are at high risks of accidents, attacks, and failures. These attacks and failures can be the means of a disruptive and unorganized technological economy.
CERT (Computer Emergency and Response Team) is one of the most popular and prosperous Internet security expertise centers in the United States. It was started in December 1988 by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. CERT is located at the Software Engineering Institute, a federally funded research center operated by Carnegie Mellon University. CERT studies Internet security vulnerabilities, provides services to Web sites that have been attacked and publishes security alerts. CERT's research activities include the area of Wide Area Networks computing and developing improved Internet security. The organization also provides training to incident response professionals.
The CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) has become a major reporting center for incidents and vulnerabilities since its inception in 1988. Over the years, the CERT/CC has received over 9,000 vulnerability reports and handled more than 173,500 incidents, many involving hundreds, and in some cases, thousands of computers. Through this work, the CERT/CC has collected, and continues to collect, information related to network survivability and security. The CERT Knowledgebase is a subset of this information that has been extracted and structured in a manner that will allow information to be easily searched, analyzed, and shared. .
Although you cannot make it completely immune to attacks, there are ways to improve the overall security of your system to make it less vulnerable. To help you improve your system's security, CERT have developed a method for evaluating your security risks, security practices that you can implement, and training courses for managers and technical personnel.
