Only Child

Being the only child in a family is easy because it awarded me with various positive experiences such as; having high self-esteem, being lavished with extra loving attention, and establishing a closer relationship with my grandfather. Knowing the basic of sharing, caring, respect, and sensitivity to others needs is based on what our parents taught, not the number of siblings you have.
Growing up as the only child helped me become very indolent. Over the years, I have always admired my grandfather and his ability to show me right from wrong. Watching him overcome life's challenges and adversity in a calmly fashion showed me what it means to be an adult. My grandfather has always been there to help me battle all obstacles that come my way. He gave confidence that helped me boost my self-esteem and, has guided me to become a strong individual.
As a young child I was lavished with love and attention and often times spoiled. Since, I had no other siblings my grandfather gave me all of his time and devotion. We would spend hours playing, talking and just spending quality time together. I never felt lonely my grandfather was always there. He has been my companion. Someone I could always rely on to be there. My grandfather is very special. He always gave up what ever he was doing to make me happy. Being the only child I got to experience this special bond. As for a family with other siblings the love would have to be shared. Having my grandfather as my parent, I realize we have a very special bond that most children and parents haven't been able to experience. We are very close and feel we can rely on each other for friendship, love, and secureness. This is what makes me feel honored to be raised an only child. Also that is why I think it has been easy.
