An Overview of Surrogacy

A surrogate mothers fee ranges between $10,000 and $40,000 per pregnancy. Many surrogates form an incredible bond and friendship with the intended parents, and the surrogate usually remains in their life, maybe not to the extent they were during the pregnancy, but to some extent. Some surrogates I have had the pleasure of speaking to say that is one of the biggest pluses for them, it means so much to them that the intended parents consider their relationship that important that they would want her to stay in their life and have the opportunity to watch this little miracle grow. On the intended parents side some say that they could not imagine their life without the surrogate still remaining a part of it. She was a big part of their life and loved them enough to help give them their child, they don't want to ever lose that part of their life.
Often there are legal difficulties that come about with surrogacy. In some states the contract is signed between the intended parents and the surrogate and mean nothing. This can cause huge problems if the surrogate were to change her mind or if problems started to arise between surrogate and intended parents to strain their relationship. The emotions that are involved all through the pregnancy are like a roller coaster and their often is enourmus amounts of stress for both surrogate and intended parents. The excitement of finally having the reality that you are going to have that baby that has been wanted for so long on the intended parents side but the stress that you are having to place the care of your long awaited baby in the hands of another woman for 9 months. During the pregnancy the relationship between the surrogate and the parents grows and becomes stronger, the intended parents have had to put their complete trust in this person to take care of their baby. Who has the right to this child? Surrogacy is a wonderful thing for infertile couples as long as both sides are educated on the matter and fully aware of the pros and cons.
