Spirituality has been always related to religion. People think that just because a person believes in God she is religious. Also, if a person reads the Bible or goes frequently to church, she is considered religious. What people have not understood is that spirituality is totally different from religion. They cannot comprehend how one could be without the other. Certainly, they are separate. The Bible says in the book of John chapter four, verse twenty-three the following, "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks." This verse is my base to believe that God does not want religious people but "worshipers in spirit and truth." .
God does not want religion. Religions are organizations that were created by humans to fill the necessity of worship something. Those organizations were also created so people could create their own system of beliefs that could fit with what they wanted and with what they wanted to listen. Even if those beliefs would not go according to God's word, they would establish them; therefore they are not worshipers in spirit and truth.
God is not interested in people going to church if they do not know Him. God does not want us singing in church if we do not love Him with our heart. God is not interested in people knowing the whole Bible if they do not apply what they read. God is not interested in rituals that would satisfy people, but that would not praise Him. God is not interested in a religion that does not follow His percepts and that does not look for His will. On the other hand, God is interested in changing the heart and in having a personal relationship with the people.
Spirituality is having a personal relationship with God and living according His percepts. Since God created the world, He wanted us to have a relationship with Him. Adam and Eve broke that relationship by sinning.
