The Lost Boy

 

            The book "The Lost Boy" is the second of three books written by David Pelzer. This book is a follow up of "A Child Called It." "The Lost Boy" chronicles David's life through foster care and his search for a home all the way until he is a legal adult. .
             The book begins with David describing his last experiences with his mother. His mother gives him the decision to run away, and he does. David ends up in a pizza place with a man named Mark who calls the police. The police take him to the station where his father comes and picks him up. His mother made up a cover story and so David goes home. However soon after David goes back to school, where he finds out that his teachers have notified the police and are able to help him leave his mother. He has to go through a large physical exam. David is then placed in foster care with a woman named "Aunt Mary." She is an older woman who has seven other children living there. Even though David is away from his mother, she still troubles him in his dreams.
             Soon David meets his first social worker, Ms. Gold. David still feels scared and afraid over his mother. He has to go to trial to decide if he is going to go to foster care or end up back with his mother. At the trial, David has to make the hardest decision of his life, which is to either stay with his mother and say he lied about everything or go into foster care. David goes to foster care. After the trial David is moved to a different foster home. The home of Lillian Catanze. The book describes his troubles of stealing, low self-esteem, and how he didn't fit in anywhere. He lived with Larry, Connie, Larry Jr., Rudy, and Chris. Soon David was learning to stick up for himself and was getting into confrontations with Larry Jr. David was sent to see a psychiatrist. He has trouble with the psychiatrist. David tries to get love from his dad. David soon begins to ride his bike near his old house and get into more trouble.
