Research Paper on William Faulkner

Estelle was stunned, but her parents began to grow fond of Cornell and decided that he would make a suitable husband for their daughter. Estelle soon felt trapped into the situation with no way out, and soon she felt obligated to marry Cornell even though she did not love him. Estelle and Cornell were later married in Oxford on April 18, 1918.
The other close acquaintance in William's life was Phil Stone. Phil immediately recognized the many talents that William had, and set out to give him encouragement, advice, and models for study. Stone and Faulkner had many of the same interests. They were both interested in poetry and they were lawyers. Stone was school at Ole Miss. and Yale. After the news following Estelle's marriage with Cornell, Stone invited William to go and stay with him in New Haven, where he took his first job with the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, but soon accepted an invitation to become a cadet in training in the Royal Air force located in Canada.
In previous years, Faulkner had tried to join the U.S Army Air Force, but he got turned down because of his height. He also told many lies in his RAF application about many things to pass himself as British, such as his birth date and birthplace. Even during a meeting with RAF officials William faked a British accent.
His training began in Toronto, but before he could finish, the war had ended and instead of going to combat he received an honorable discharge. I guess he wanted to feel like he was a real soldier because following his honorable discharge he purchased an officer's dress uniform and a set of wings pin to put on his newly never used uniform even thought he most likely never flew either.
Even though Faulkner never actually participated in any sort of combat, he never bothered to tell the people back in Oxford that. When he returned to Oxford, William told so many stories about his times in battle. He made up highly untrue stories that said he was in horrific situations that left him with a constant shooting pain and also a silver plate placed in his head.
