Jimi Hendrix

 

            Jimi Hendrix was born at 10:15 am on November 27, 1942, at Seattle's King Country Hospital. Jimi Hendrix was born as Johnny Allen Hendrix and later renamed by his father as James Marshall Hendrix or young Jimmy at the time.
             Jimi Hendrix's Influence.
             Jimi took interest in music from a very early age and took influence from almost every major artist of his time these artists include B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin" Wolf, Buddy Holly and Robert Johnson. Jimmy's Guitar playing can be traced from many styles such as Blues, Jazz and Classical which later on contributed to many new sounds.
             Jimi Hendrix Development.
             Jimi was entirely self-taught and as he couldn't read music so this made him concentrate harder on the music that he heard from the artists that influenced Jimi.
             Jimmy's dad recognised his interest in the guitar and with his dad finding an old one-string ukulele which he gave to Jimi it was a huge improvement from play inanimate objects pretending they were a guitar.
             In the summer of 1958 Jimmy's dad purchased a five dollar acoustic guitar from one of his friends and shortly after Jimi joined his first band, The Velvetones. By the following summer Jimi bought his first electric guitar the Supro Ozark 1560's where Jimi then used it when he later joined The Rocking Kings.
             Jimi played the smaller venues throughout Greenwich Village and in 1966 Jimi signed an agreement to have him move to London to form a new band and by the end of 1966 Jimi was the talk of London in the newly formed band "The Jimi Hendrix Experience".
             Over this time gradually building up his experience Jimmy's influence on the whole music scene was increasing.
             The Influence of Hendrix.
             Hendrix had overwhelming success in Britain but when he returned to America in June 1967 he presented himself to the audience at the Montery International Pop Festival with his performance of "Wild Thing" and literally overnight The Jimi Hendrix Experience because one of the most popular and highest grossing touring acts in the world.
