Developmental history

For the assignment I mostly interviewed family members from my maternal side do to a lack of contact with the other side of the family. On the maternal side I interviewed my mother, two uncles, and my grandmother. On the paternal side I interviewed my grandmother. Most of my family members had descent childhood and spoke pleasantly of their experiences. I had a lot of unpleasant memories and experiences as a youth and related mostly to my maternal grandmother. We both grew up without a father and had many struggles in life. But where we differ is the source of our problems. Her father died of a heart attack when she was nine, and my father left me when I was two. I do believe that most of the conflicts I've had in my lifetime arose from the day of my birth. On the contrary, most of my grandmothers conflicts were caused by a life altering experience. Out of all the family members I interviewed, my mother was the youngest to give birth. Everybody on my maternal side, including myself, has a small immediate family. But my paternal grandmother had ten brothers and sisters including a twin. And what amazes me is through it all she seemed to have a very happy child hood. Alike my maternal grandmother, her father also died of a heart attack when she was 15. But her mother was still able to hold a family of 11 children close together, unlike the mother of my maternal grandmother who had difficult time holding a family of two children together. I have come to realize through my interviews that the men in my family don't live too long. Heart disease is common among my ancestors so it is not surprising to me that I have high blood pressure. The discipline of the majority of family was more systematic. Most had the routine spankings or groundings. The discipline I received was a lot more unpredictable. My mother never really had a system for discipline. If she was mad she might throw a shoe at me or maybe just curse at me.
