Abolish Capital Punishment

the death sentence is abominable, as abominable as the crime itself. Our state must be based on love, not hatred and victimization. Our penal code must be based on rehabilitation rather than annihilation."(Chenjeria Hove, poet). The point that im going to prove is that capital punishment should be abolished because of three main reasons : there are many other alternatives, there is lack of deterrence, and it's an unusual punishment, which violates the eighth amendment. .
There are many other alternatives besides the death penalty that judges don't even care to look at. One alternative would be: Persons convicted of capital murder should serve a minimum of 25 years in prison before the possibility of consideration for parole. This wouldn't guarantee the prisoner of actually getting paroled though, because the Parole Board has to go through a lot of strict standards in order to have someone paroled. As long as a prisoner remains alive he or she can hope for rehabilitation or for exoneration in the case of a prisoner who is subsequently found to be innocent. Execution removes the possibility of compensation for judicial error or rehabilitation of the offender. Sentences with significant minimum terms can also provide the public with the protection from repeat offenders. An inmate released at the age of 55 or 60 years old is statistically far less likely to engage in crime than someone in their late 20's. Violent crime arrest rates peak at age 18 and then gradually decline to almost zero at age 60 and over (Effects). .
In some cases imprisonment should be for life, without possibility of parole ever.
Since we are the tax payers we are paying for all these people that are in prisons; a portion of their earnings should go to pay for their incarceration and another portion should go to the victims" family. There are thirty- two states in the United States that offer life without parole .
             as a sentencing option.
