The techniques in the production of the film which Luhrmann uses and introduces in Strictly Ballroom are very intriguing, as it not only draws the audience into the film because they have a clear understanding of it, but they can relate to the characters and their outgoing and extravagant personalities. .
             Strictly Ballroom's plot is one that every girl would have dreamt about. Throwing away all of your fears and following your heart, doing something you love, whilst in the meanwhile falling in love. The plot of Strictly Ballroom draws the audience into a surreal environment, where is seems like anything is possible, which is a characteristic of the film which has led to its success. The transformation of Fran, from being a boring woman who seems to have no personality or goals reached or set in her life, is one which people love to see develop. Being able to watch Fran transform from this dull lifeless woman transform into a beautiful, confident dancer leaves the audience feeling warm hearted; but it isn't just the image that the audience have in their heads after watching the film, just watching the film is like you"re being drawn into a land of dreams and fairytales, which is one all girls would dream of. .
             The environment and that magical place we are drawn into throughout the film is one of the characteristics that have led to its success.
             Strictly Ballroom is a love story, but a love story cannot be if there is no tension throughout the film. The war between individuality and conformity that is being played throughout the film by the characters of Scott and Barry Fife is one that has led to its success. All typical love stories need a climax or a specific event that will threaten the relationship between the two lead characters, which in this case are Scott and Fran. The tension that leads to the breakdown of their relationship is the tension between Barry Fife, who wants Scott to conform to Strictly Ballroom and dance his routine steps, and the individuality that Scoot presents by wanting to, and eventually dancing his own steps.
