The Effects on Education As It Relates to Class and Race.

There are many educated people in America who are trying to find the source of the problems within our educational system. Many times the problem is with those that are looking for the problem. The educated are somewhat distanced from the reality that aids in keeping the uneducated in that situation. Sometimes where you come from and who you are plays a significant role in the path that our young people take. The environment that some of these young people grow up in is not conducive to them knowing what it takes to be successful and positive in the world. We as educators need to find new ways and new ideas to help these students in the lower class and the minority groups to understand what it will take to be more than average and how to get there.
In today's educational society, many times teachers are instructed to teach to a certain set of standards and not to deviate from that.ﻬ.
My question is this, what happens to those students who have not gotten to the level that they were supposed to be at when they arrived in your class? Are they supposed to be just left behind and forgotten? We are so caught up in the benchmarks and assessments that we have forgotten about the individual child. We are mainstreaming, and using inclusion to ruin our kids. If a child is at the 2nd grade level of reading why is he in the same class with kids that are reading at the 6th grade level? I have seen it far too many times? What usually happens is the kid feels stupid and totally shuts down and gives up which in turn will most times lead to behavioral problems. We need to look at how we have our educational system setup.
In order for the lower class student to be productive, I feel that there needs to be some type of interaction with the school and the parents or guardians. There is no way that a teacher can help a lower class student without knowing what their situation is at home and what they go through on a daily basis.
