The New Land

 

            
             IN 1606 John Smith founded a land called Jamestown, Virginia. He wrote a book called The New Land to persuade people from England to move over. To me there are many advantages and disadvantages for Englanders that move over there. .
             The disadvantages would be the long trip over on a boat, which today we would use an airplane to get over the sea in a quicker way. Not knowing if you are going to land on the right island or land, but one with sane people that won't kill or eat you. When you get there you wouldn't have a place to live or know what food is good to eat. You would be subject to many deadly diseases that were very contagious like the Bubonic Plague.
             The advantage to moving there would be the many opportunities for people that didn't have them. There would be many jobs that wouldn't usually be open in England. There was much open land that could be used for farming to survive.
             If I had lived in England during the time and received this letter it would depend on what my status or social standing was. If I were rich there would be no reason for me to leave when I'm prospering and living happy with my family. I would have everything going for my family and I.
             Now if I were poor I would leave and go to America because there would be great opportunity and work that wasn't there for me in America. I would probably be able to get a good job and provide for my family and I.
