IN BED

Vital Concern--The vital concern of the poem is what I feel Joan came to realize, accept and anticipate. It is the fact that she appreciates her migraines, She uses them to flush out her tempers, attitudes and wrong doings that occur in her average week.
Inform--In the first couple of paragraphs she informs us on the symptoms of her migraines. For example, she usually experiences the migraines about two days a week, they first started when she was eight and that anything and nothing in particular triggers her migraines. She also tells us that her father was in the Air force and that a majority of her immediate family members get migraines, even her husband who is not blood related. In the fourth paragraph she goes on to inform us on the specifics of the typical migraine. She says that serotonin, a hormone that acts as a chemical messenger to transmit nerve signals between nerve cells ,falls sharply at the onset of a migraine?, causing a change in mood, and that a drug called methysergide can help if used as a preventive drug and not as a reactive drug, if taken ahead of time. Joan also informs us on the symptoms that most people experience with migraines such as mild hallucinations and temporary blindness. She also uses the wordaura? to describe the period after the actual headache. Some auras are said to last minutes, while others are known to last hours. .
Convince--She most definitely convinced me that I never want to experience a migraine and that if I ever come into contact with someone who has or is experiencing a migraine, to be extremely sensitive towards them. She said that most people react to others instances of migraines by sayingwhy don't you take a couple of aspirin? or that they bring it upon themselves. By informing us on the symptoms and causes of migraines she convinces me that no one can cure migraines or prevent them totally, but that it is merely bad luck.
