lab report

Lab Report for Chemical Reactions Experiment.

In this experiment students will attempt a number of different reactions. The students will confirm that a reaction did/did not occur by detailed observation, and predict the products of each reaction by performing basic tests.
             Hypothesis:.
The reactions that contain acid will have a reaction, as well as the ones with the Bunsen burner.
             Criteria for basic test:.
-Blue litmus paper turns red in the presence of an acid.
-Red litmus paper turns blue in the presence of a base.
-Cobalt chloride paper turns white in the presence of water.
-A glowing splint goes out in the presence of carbon dioxide.
-A glowing splint burns brighter in the presence of oxygen.
-a glowing splint will pop in the presence of hydrogen.
             Observations for reactions:.
             Rxn-1.
After holding the copper wire for 1 or 2 minutes the copper wire slowly started to turn white.
             Rxn-2.
After holding the copper wire at the outer part of the tube the copper wire slowly started to turn silver.
             Rxn-3.
The blue litmus paper turned pink very slowly, the red litmus paper turned blue, the glowing splint flamed out as we inserted it in the tube, which means there was a presence of carbon dioxide.
             Rxn-4.
As the vapors reached the cobalt chloride paper slowly turned white which means there was a presence of water.
             Rxn-5.
As we put the glowing splint in the tube the splint popper which meant there was a presence of hydrogen. .
             Rxn-6.
After leaving the coil in the solution for about 10 minutes we noticed there was a film building on the coil.
             Rxn-7.
The glowing splint did not burn out which meant there was a presence of oxygen in the .
