The authoritarian style of parenting uses a high degree of parental control over a child's behavior and little nurturance in the form of praise, affection, and rewards. The child learns to follow the family values by desire to please the parent because the parenting style is supportive and encouraging of the child (Moore, 1992).              Observation #1: authoritative parenting style.
I observed a family of four eating dinner at Chili's one evening. There was a father who didn't seem involved or present, an infant in a carrier, a warm and involved mother and a little boy around 4 years old.
