History Regents - part 3B- Document based question.
The United States immigration policy has changed over time to reflect the needs and attitudes of American society. Immigration policies have been implemented and changed according to the growing needs of the developing country. .
In document 7 the president passed the immigration act of 1965, this act allowed immigrants that might have formerly been denied entrance into the country bases on where they were from or other trivial matters, and disregarding the fact that the immigrant was a highly skilled worker and was sorely needed in the workplace. After the passage of the bill, if a person had family in the country or they were a skilled worker they were allowed to enter into the country. According to document five restrictions were places on immigration because of the overflow of incoming refugees, the government imposed this restriction because of the lack of places to place the incoming refugees. According to document two people wanted to come to America because of what it offered to the people, in that there was work for everyone there were not any oppressive taxes no monarchies and many other reasons, all contributed to the flood of immigrants. In document one the Chinese are sited as one of the best sources of cheap efficient labor. In that, they did what the white laborers did but they were cheaper and they were quicker in doing the same quality and amount of work.
