             Life's changed drastically within a ten year period from the 1920's to the 1930's. People went from living prosperous happy life;" in the 20's, then to losing fortunes and being homeless after the great depression., the similarities and differences between the 1920's and 1930's are shown in the economy, social life, and political.
             The economy was growing and expanding under a hand off the government theory during the 1920's but took a huge dive after the stock market crashed in 1929. The graph in document 11 shows the build up of the stock market, its peak in 1929, then its dive and steady downfall into 1932. The 1930's started out with millions left jobless and homeless. People started setting up small comunities of shacks that they t named "hoovervilles" after president Hoover who they blamed for the depression. Document 10 shows a political cartoon depicting how the public blamed the depression on Hoover. When FDR was elected in 1932 he began his presidency with the promis of setting up the "New Deal" which called for broad public work programs that thoughruly revived the heartbeat of the economy.
             The 1920's started the social life that most of us know today. The 20's were known as the "Jazz Age" or "The Golden Age". Silent movies were very popular at this time, along with radios. Document 1 shows a chart of households with radios, in 1920 20,000 people owned one, by 1930 13,750,000 households had a radio. Football and baseball also became popular at this time and heroes such as Babe Ruth entertained millions of people. Document 9 shows a picture of legendary homerun king Babe Ruth. In the 30's a man named John Dillinger became popular for robbing banks and the people loved him for it because they hated the banks. Document 12 shows a picture of the infamous bank robber John Dillinger.
            
             Politics played a big part in the differences between the 20's and the 30's. The president that was in office for most of the 20's was Calvin Coolidge, otherwise known as "silent cal".
