I hate Hamlet

Lampito from Lysisstrata, Lady Bracknell from The importance of being Earnest, and Gary from I Hate Hamlet are all supporting characters and make the plays a little more interesting and humorous. They sit there and try to get the main characters to do something that they don't want to do, which in the case of these plays the thing they don't want to do is actually the logical and reasonable thing to do. In I Hate Hamlet Gary is trying to get Andrew to do a TV series for incredible amounts of money, its funny because who would need to be encouraged to do a TV series for millions, I"d do it in the blink of an eye. In The Importance of being Earnest Lady Bracknell is trying to get Gwendolyn to marry someone from a high class family, and who wouldn't want to marry someone from a family with class and wealth and a good name? In Lysistrata, Lampito is the first one to agree to the idea of boycotting the men to make peace and end the wars. Its funny because that's not what any of the women really want to do, they complain about sleeping alone without a strong man, but they managed to get them to throw down their swords and come home for sex. The irony of these characters is what makes the plays funny. It always turns out that what these supporting characters were telling the main characters to do was not what the main characters wanted to do, and What they were telling the main characters not to do is really what they wanted to do all along. This is why these characters are important in the plays, they add to the humor. .
